Commissioners Approve Funding for Library Improvements and Appoint Interim Tax Administrator
At Monday night’s meeting, the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners approved funding to repair the Public Library’s Lenoir Branch and appointed an interim tax administrator.
Following a report from Public Library Director Janet Fore, commissioners voted to use $330,000 from the SCIF fund to rebuild the retaining wall and install new pavers at the branch entrance, install new carpet, paint, and make repairs to the bathrooms in the 60-year-old building. The money for these projects comes from the state legislature and is to be used for repairs and renovations, or large capital projects.
The board also appointed Tax Appraisal Supervisor Jason Pennell to serve as interim tax administrator. Pennell has worked in the Tax Department for almost three years and has served Caldwell County for nearly 27 years. Pennell’s appointment comes following Tax Administrator Josh Angle’s resignation.
In other decisions, commissioners rezoned property located at 2565 Connelly Springs Road in Granite Falls from residential/agricultural to general business at the request of Granite Falls Trailer Sales. Commissioners denied a rezoning request that would have allowed apartments to be built at 4322 Celia Creek Road.
Additionally, the board passed a resolution honoring the 2026 South Caldwell Lady Spartans Softball Team for winning the state 6-A championship, and they adopted a proclamation recognizing August 31st as Overdose Awareness Day.
